(Review by Greg Schaible)
I walked in the theater expecting another great performance by Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson, yet at the same time a little sceptical about a submarine movie.
Alexei Vostrikov (Ford) was a seemingly power hungry captain of the Soviet Union's newest, and most powerful submarine on Earth, K19. Mikhail Polenin (Neeson) , the original captian of K19, was demoted but was still the captain in the crew's heart.
The crew overcomes many tasks that show their true compassion for the mother land. Nuclear disaster seems inevitable throught out the film.
K19 is a film from the Soviet Union's point of view during the cold war. At points in the film, it shows how communist propaganda blinds their country's citizens into believing in their cause. The historical side to the movie, showing the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union, was shown well through out the movie.
In conclusion, I would like to say that this movie was one of the better movies I have seen in a while. With a true meaning to it, K19 will play with the audience's emotions and keep them on the edge of their seat through out the entire film. |
