(Review by Sean Conover)
In the same vein as "X-Men," this most recent (and long-awaited) comic book movie is clean and mostly family-friendly. A good mix of humor and heroes, the story does a good job of introducing us to the characters, showing us their trepidation in dealing with new found 'powers,' and finally coming together to battle evil.
However, in last year's "Spider-man" and last month's "Batman Begins," the level of story and substance have been taken to new levels, and the Fantastic Four are rather un-fantastic. Sure, the dialogue is easy and the characters straight-forward and fun, but there just doesn't seem to be anything driving the soul of the film.
Yes, it's blockbuster summer fare all shiny and loud and worth a watch, but in the end you end up with just a "Fun Four." |
